Steeped in Historic Charleston's rich, classic style and decorative arts culture, the King Charles 100-Percent cotton matelasse bedding collection offers the ultimate blend of European, Caribbean, and Asian influences. King Charles matelasse bedding offers a luxuriously soft bedspread, coverlet, bedskirt, shams and decorative accent pillows featuring classic 19th century motifs representing the sun, a topiary, a pheasant, and a pineapple. The superior design of King Charles matelasse can be traced back to England circa 1820, incorporating key influences from that time period including the fine arts and quality craftsmanship. Each individual piece is constructed on a special weaving loom to create the luxurious design that defines this lovely classic matelasse collection. Highs and lows created during the jacquard weaving process allow the motifs and sourrounding designs to come to life. Intricate details including rolling arches, half moons, double diamonds and scrolling vines come together to create this beautiful collection. Coverlet and bedspread drape beautifully over the bed to reveal rounded corners. Pair the bedspread with bedskirt to create a complete look. Add coordinating, decorative shams and pillows to create the ultimate bedroom oasis. The heavy-weight, stonewashed matelasse of King Charles bedding ensures life-long durability and style for generations to come.

By Trailmix
Absolutely delighted with this bedspread, it is exactly what I was looking for.The quality of the bedspread is excellent and it looks beautiful on the bed. The feel is soft like a cotton blanket, and not scratchy or stiff like some quilted coverlets can be. The weight is a little heavier than a 4 season cotton blanket but not as heavy as a down alternative comforter. We can sleep under just this and a sheet with the thermostat set at 65 but will probably add a blanket under it for winter.I would give the item 5 stars except for the size. Amazon's dimensions listed for bedspread are 114 inches wide and for coverlet is 96 inches wide, but what was sent to me is 104 inches wide and does not reach the floor on both sides. The packaging that came with the bedspread shows 114 inch width but that's not what's inside. It still looks great on the bed, it's just not what you expect for something labelled "bedspread". So I ordered the matching bedskirt to go with it.My king bed is not a pillow top but is extra deep, and the bedspread reaches to a couple inches below the top of the bedskirt on both sides, which is more like what you'd expect for something labelled "coverlet" instead of "bedspread". However, it is plenty long enough to tuck over the pillows at the head and still reach to the floor on the foot of the bed, which does make it more like a "bedspread". The edge design woven into the fabric, as shown in the bed photos on amazon, on my bed falls on the top instead of the side, about 3 inches from the actual mattress edge, but along the foot it's about 2 inches down the vertical side.My advice is look at the measurements before ordering, and expect the item you buy to be smaller than the listed size. I have not washed the bedspread so can't address how it holds up to laundering.I bought this King Charles Matelasse "sunshine" color bedspread with a little trepidation, because there is a large color difference in the photos depending on which item (pillow, sham, coverlet) you are looking at. So I will clear this up for future buyers. The color of the "sunshine" items is shown on some pages as dark or lemony yellow, but the item I received is a lovely pale, somewhat dusty yellow, leaning toward buttercream, which is precisely what I wanted. If you want bright yellow, this is not for you. I wouldn't quite call the color buttercream, because in my mind buttercream is paler than this and closer to a dark ivory than this color is. I also wouldn't call it tan or gold or even pale gold, there's just not that much brown in it. Think "easter pastel" yellow maybe. I am pairing it with ivory linens and embroidered ivory/gold sheer curtains for a light, breezy spring look against tan walls and oak wood blinds.

Don't let the 4 stars throw you. I very rarely give 5 stars. For something to get 4 stars from me it has to be exceptional. This matelasse is lovely. The name of the color, "birch" is obscure to me. I didn't know what that meant. In my world I'd call this beige. It's a very light brown with no yellow tone in it. It clashes with ivory but looks beautiful with pinks, blues and certain shades of green. My bedroom has one green wall where the bed is the other walls are off white. The accent colors are rose, pink and burgundy. This birch color is the right backdrop for my colors. It could be made quite masculine with shades of green and blue. The mattelasse itself is thick and rich looking. Looks like the old fashioned bedspreads I used to see Williamsburg, VA. I just adore it.

This bed spread weight, color and fabric are great and it washes up keeping it's color. I order a King because other reviews said it was too small for a queen. I think they ordered the coverlet by mistake which is smaller. I plan to stitch up the sides (width) a bit so it is not as long there. The length is fine. I just tuck a bit more under the pillows when making the bed! I plan to order another with matching shams so I can add another bit of color to the bed or change it up when I want.
